Arun Legend Colin Knight Dies.

Colin Knight died on the 20th January 2010 after a short illness leaving a

tremendous void in the life of his family, Arun District IBC, Soutbourne

BC, Chichester BC and the sport of bowls in general.

Colin was an exceptional bowler as his record of achievements shows,

but more importantly he was a great sportsman who was always a

pleasure to play with or against. In short, a credit to the game he loved.

Colin won the Arun Singles Championship no less than nine times as well as numerous Pairs, Singles and Fours titles. He also took part in many National and County competitions, both indoor and out, with not a little success. As a member of Southbourne BC he was a member of the team that won the National Triples Championship at Worthing in 1989 Doing so entered them into the British Isles Championship. They reached the Final of that competition and after 17 ends they were five shots up. Much to Colin's disgust they dropped a six on the last end to lose by one!

Our thoughts are with his wife Sandie, his family and friends at this sad

time

The world is a poorer place for his passing.

Observer Newspapers.
Thanks for the Coverage
This Newsletter is sent to the Observer each month
so on behalf of the various Committees and Members
of Arun, we should like to express our gratitude to the
Observers Chief Sports Editor Steve Bone and also
Photographer Kate Shemilt for the near full page
coverage given to our Club on page 23 of the 21st of
January edition. The timing was most opportune
coming as it did just before our Open Day on the 30th
of January.
Thanks also to Men’s Press Officer Rod Lincoln
who set the whole thing up.
The Ladies were particularly taken by Guide Dog
Orlando who looks though he might be trained to
retrieve bowls for the partially sighted bowlers
although he would have to wear his flat soled paws!
Thanks again Steve and the Observer Newspapers.
