THE ARUN CLUB

Arun District Indoor Bowling Club was born out of the ashes of the old Southdean Club in 1983. The construction work was supervised on behalf of the ADIBC by a Steering Committee fronted by Tom Botting, Ted Mason and Jim Wilmott, sadly all now deceased. The completed Club premises were opened for bowling on October 1st of that year and formally opened by the Duchess of Norfolk 8 weeks later on 26th November.

Arun quickly built a reputation as a well organised Club and soon began to obtain favourable results in County, National and other prestigious competitions. None finer than the Ladies Fours National Championship in 1994/95 won by Daphne Anderson, Hazel Gregory, Mavis Butler and Wendy Adams. The following season the National Mixed Fours Championship was won for Arun by Daphne Anderson, Hazel Gregory, Paul Butler and Chris Rolph.

The new Millennium announced it's arrival belatedly with a ferocious storm which badly damaged the roof over the Bowls Hall causing a temporary curtailment of the Clubs bowling activities. During this time we had cause to be grateful to some of our neighbouring IBC's for allowing us the use of their Greens to play our National and County competitions.

During recent years the Club premises have undergone a phased refurbishment programme which has transformed the Club from it's former rather bleak looking interior into the comfortable, well lit, air conditioned building that we now enjoy.

Arun has an excellent 6 rink new Dales Pro-Weave bowling green 36 metres long. The new Club shirt colours are royal blue and white with a red trim and royal blue fleeces and gilets are worn above .

The Club Opening Times are normally from 9.30am to 10.30pm daily during the Winter Season. Opening times for the Summer Season are available on request.

Other facilities include a fully licensed Bar, The Bowl Inn, which is open from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm to 10:30 pm in the winter season and occasionally in the summer. During the winter season refreshments can readily be obtained from the Club's restaurant, The Arun Diner, which serves drinks, snacks and an extensive menu from Breakfasts to Lunches and Main Meals.

Frequent Social Events take place such as Bingo, Whist Drives etc. All functions are usually accompanied with food from the Club's Restaurant.
